Culture is the heart of the inner city. Here, Brooklyn, grade 7, acknowledges how Indigenous culture has deep roots in her east side community.

Tip of the Scale

Culture.

Longhouses are the foundation of our community.

The majority of our population

at Britannia

is Indigenous.

Culture is rooted deep

in the Grandview area.

In this picture, the longhouse is larger than the Britannia building.

This was done purposely,

using the art of perspective.

Ironically, the name of our school is a reflection of colonization.

Therefore, as an Indigenous youth, I chose to make it smaller.

In size,

our school may be larger,

but

the history of our culture

is more significant in

Scope

and

Scale.
