youthLEADarts Ontario is delighted to announce that they have received an $11,200 grant from the Huronia Community Foundation through the Heart of Georgian Bay Community Forward Fund! This fund supports bold and innovative projects that address literacy and training opportunities, environmental leadership, and creativity in arts and culture. Huronia Community Foundation was founded in 2000 to serve the North Simcoe Community. They are devoted to helping local residents invest in building strong and resilient places to live, work and play.
The grant will be distributed over two years and will bring together three elementary schools and 250 plus grades 5-8 students in the Simcoe region at James Keating in Penetanguishene, Mundy’s Bay in Midland and Christian Island on the traditional land of the Beausoleil First Nation.
These schools will participate in youthLEADarts’ Water Protectors Program. Youth will explore questions through the arts such as: Who am I? How do I impact the environment? What is my relationship and responsibility to water? How can I effect change?

The LEAD values are our tools as we investigate the challenges our fresh water sources are facing and delve into our roles as water protectors.
When workshops are complete, there will be a showcase/celebration of learning at each school, and a second one that brings all three communities together. We are working on a partnership with the Canadian Museum of Water in Midland, a UNESCO affiliated initiative, so that youth art and voices can be shared locally and internationally.
The grant calls for matching funds, so if you would like to donate visit https://www.youthleadarts.com/support/
Help our youth to be the voice and face for stewardship of one of our most important resources.
