Leaders: When You Fall They Help You Rise: A Poem by Youth Contributor Devan Grewal

This post was entirely created and written by youth author and blog contributor Devan Grewal.

I was inspired to write this poem on leadership because there are many leaders in our community that are not recognized and do not get the credit they deserve for what they do.

Leaders are important because they provide direction, inspiration, and stability to a group or organization. They help set goals, make decisions, and motivate others to work toward a shared goal or vision. Leaders build trust, and guide people through challenges, ensuring progress and unity even in difficult times. Without strong leadership, teams can lack focus and struggle to reach their full potential. This is why we need leaders in our community.

Leaders: When You Fall They Help You Rise

By: Devan Grewal

In darkest nights they are the flame,

They light the path and lead the way.

They stand when others choose to fall,

And support in times when desperation calls.

They listen more than they command,

They help you rise, they help you stand.

They take the blame, they share the win,

They know that trust comes from within.

They guide with heart, not with rules,

They learn from life, they have the tools.

They care, they serve, and try to see,

How to help those in need.

A leader is led by a spark in their soul,

A vision, a purpose, a meaningful goal.

They stand up to those who decide to do wrong,

And help the quiet to become confident and strong.

When a challenge arises, a leader accepts,

They exceed expectations and the standards are met.

Even when questioned for why they should fight,

The leader moves on to keep shining their light.

Leadership is about inspiring and motivating others,

Treating everyone as equals, like sisters and brothers.

It’s being able to communicate and show respect,

And staying calm when no one knows what to expect.

A leader is more than a position or role.

A leader is responsible and takes control.
